Edwards Irvine Spectrum 21 IMAX and RPX posts top ticket sales in North America for opening of “Star Wars: The Last Jedi”
Irvine Spectrum Center®IRVINE, Calif. – The Force opened strong at Irvine Spectrum Center, where more movie-goers than anywhere in North America enjoyed “Star Wars: The Last Jedi.”
Thousands of Star Wars fans – some waving lightsabers, others dressed in Kylo Ren and Luke Skywalker costumes – joined hundreds of thousands of holiday shoppers at the popular entertainment and lifestyle destination, and purchased the most tickets during the first two days of the new film’s showing.
“It’s already the most wonderful time of the year, and the opening of the new Star Wars movie added to the excitement and made the weekend extra fun and special,” said Blake Windal, general manager of Irvine Spectrum Center.
When Edwards Irvine Spectrum Center 21 IMAX and RPX opened a long time ago (20 years, to be exact), it seemed like it came from a galaxy far, far away. One of the first megaplex theaters in the world, the cinephile favorite consistently ranks among the top grossing theaters in the nation with 5,153 seats, 21 screens, an eight-story IMAX screen and an RPX screen.
The theater has maintained its edge as an entertainment destination, recently adding a new luxury wing with eight upgraded auditoriums that feature plush recliners, reserved seating, seat-side service, and an enhanced menu and a lounge.
“Irvine Spectrum Center has always been an incredible place to experience a movie,” said Shaun Mullen, District Manager, Southern California, for Regal Entertainment Group. “There’s so much to see and do at Irvine Spectrum Center in a fun, family-oriented atmosphere where people enjoy gathering together.”
That is especially true for Star Wars fans who have long considered the Irvine Spectrum as their rebel base.
Two years ago, the theater ranked 4th in the nation during the opening of “Star Wars: The Force Awakens.” This year’s top box office numbers highlight how excited fans are not only to see the newest Star Wars, but to see it in a theater that puts the event in “event film.”
